WHEN WE WEAR THE TROUSERS.

The fondness of American women for trousers was really responsible for the general adoption of this garment in Dome form or other. This year she has "slack fever” •very thoroughly indeed. Perhaps it is the long-legged beauty of the American woman which makes her so fond of this style of dressing, but -whatever the reason she certainly has a flair for wearing trousers. Since trousers or slacks when feminine have become an accepted acquisition to the wardrobe, they have ceased to be merely an affectation and a frivolity, and arc chosen and designed for utility as well as attractiveness. For the home woman, the woman who does housework especially, there is in garments of the trouser type comfort, neatness '' and freedom for movement which can never he found in skirts. Then the busy woman who rushes home and has quickly to piepare a meal can find no better garment to change into from her street clothes. A suit which has no suggestion of the boudoir or housework can be easily and simply evolved; one easy to put •n and take off and is the acme of comfort for lounging by the fire on a winter's night after the dinner is over. This year, jackets, smocks and tunics arc being worn over the slacks instead of tuck-in shirts and blouses. This is a most becoming style, and that is why it has developed—-for the wearer can suit the length of the top of her outfit to her figure. This, like most of our best ideas, has originated in Hollywood. Most of the stars have slack-jacket loungesuits to wear in the evenings after a busy day, when they wish to relax and have a quiet evening. During the filming of a picture, which is a very strenuous work, a star rarely spends her evening any other way.
