LEVIN WOMEN S INSTITUTE.

The September meeting of the Benda Women’s Institute was very well attended. The meeting opened with the singing of the ode to friendship, after which the President, Mrs. C. E. Thorpe, extended a hearty welcome to all. Apologies for absence were received from Mcsdames Goldsmith, Harris and. Nye.

Mrs Pene, of Koputaroa, gave a most , interesting demonstration of Maori crafts, and was accorded a hearty vote of thanks for her kindness in doing so. (The winners of the competitions were: —Best, sponge sandw'ich, Mrs W. Ransom 1, Mrs H. S. [Powell 2; best hand-made handkerchief, Mrs L. .Soli an 1, Mrs H. S. Powell 2. It was decided to hold a “500” card party on 13th September, and also to have .the meetings at 7.30 pan. during the summer months), commencing with , the October meeting. A dainty afternoon tea was dispensed by the hostess-, es, Mcsdames 0. Mudgway, Treen, Wenham and Miss Dunn. The singing of the National Anthem closed the meeting. Mcsdames C. E. Thorpe and T. Treen wore elected as delegates to the halfyearly Federation Council meeting to be held at Bulls next month.
