Dairy Co. Pay-out.

The Shannon Co-operative Dairy Co. Ltd. is paying out Ifld. per .lb. for butterfat supplied during the month of June. Card Party. The fortnightly euchre party held under the auspices of the Croquet Club was held in Laurvig's Hall on Tuesday afternoon, the trophy winners being Mrs Dickoff and Mrs Blaikie. Shannon Boy's Success. Mr Mervyn Taylor, late of Shannon, and now resident in Stewart Island, has received word that he has been successful in passing the Government examination for the Amateur Radio Operator's Certificate. Mothers' Union. The usual monthly meeting of the Shannon Branch of the Mothers' Union was held in the Parish Hall on Tuesday afternoon, there being a good attendance of members. A reading was given by Mrs L. Jenkins and afternoon tea was dispensed by Mesdames Free and J. Gardner. Personals. Miss Roach and Miss S. Roach left on Sunday for Auckland to catch the boat for a holiday trip to the Islands. Mrs W. Law, Whakatane, is the guest of her sister, Mrs B. Wilkinson, Vance Street. Mr F. Hewitt, who is on transfer to the Public Works Department, Palmerston North, leaves with Mrs Hewitt and family on Friday to take up his residence there. Ping-Pong. Another very enjoyable ping-pong evening was held at Miramii on Thursday. A flag competition was held, the teams consisting of: No. 1, Mrs Gillespie and Messrs Long, Ingley, Meads and Robinson. No 2. Mrs Long, Miss Morgan and Messrs Gillespie, Johnson, and Goodwin. No. 3: Mrs McDonald, Miss Stern, Messrs Stern, Morgan and Guerin. No 4. Mrs Morgan, Mrs Goodwin, Messrs Charter, Smith and Goodwin. No 1 team won with a total of 13 flags. Next Thursday a match will be played between teams representing North and South of Kingston Road respectively. Dance at Mangaore. The Mangaore .Social Club held another very enjoyable dance on Wednesday evening when the social hall was comfortably filled. Music was supplied iby Miss Zita iCartcr and extras by Mr Iv. Carter. Messrs Coates and Campbell were M.C. 's, while a tasty supper was arranged by the lady members. ' i

During- the evening the opportunity was taken by Mr A. E. Blackwood on behalf of the residents'of Mangaore to bid farewell to Mr and Mrs A. Coates on their leaving for Palmevston North. Mr Coates had been a member of the P. W. staff at Mangaore for 13 years and during that time had not only been an efficient officer, but had taken a keen interest in social affairs both at Mangaore and Shannon. He had been a member of the Shannon School Committee for some years; the Athletic Club; the District Nursing 1 Committee, and one of the most active members of the Mangaore Social Committee. His leaving would be greatly felt by the numerous friends he had made. Mr Blackwood said that the residents of Mangaore could not allow Mr Coates to leave without some token of appreciation and presented to him and Mrs Coates a gift and with it the best wishes for future happiness and prosperity. On rising to speak Mr Ccatcs was received with rounds of' applause. He said that the thirteen years he had spent at Mangaore had been happy ones and in many ways he regretted leaving. His work there had been a pleasure. He thanked those who had made the gift, which action he and Mrs Coates appreciated.

Musical honuors were accorded the speaker and at the end of the dance "Auld Lang Syne" was sung as an expression of the goodwill of the people of Mangaore. , CHESS MATCH. On Thursday evening last members of the Palmerston North Chess Club journeyed to Shannon to try con■clsuions with the local club. The competition proved to be very keen- some close games resulting. The evening, which was held in Roach's tea-rooms, was .thoroughly enjoyed by all, members expressing the wish that it would be the forerunner of many. At the conclusion Mr. Bass, President of the Shannon Club, expressed his club's {appreciation; of the visit. Mr. Arlidge replied on behalf of the visitors. The game ended 4A-uTI.
