Many Remits for National Dairy Conference
<♦ —- IMPORTANT DISCUSSIONS TO BE HELD IN CITY Next month the National Dairy Conference is to be held in Palmerston N. when a munber. of matters of great intorfest to the industry are to be considered. A number of remits have already been forwarded. The method of election of dairy farmers’ representatives to the New Zealand Dairy Board is questioned in a remit from' the Mercury Bay Co-op. Dairy Co. ; Ltd., which states: — •‘That in the opinion of this conference the existing provisions for the .election ,of the dairy farmers ’ representatives on- the New Zealand Dairy Board ’are entirely unsatisfactory and undemocratic and should be altered to provide: —1. For the elimination of fhe tonnage basis. 2. For the abolition of the factory vote. 3. To substitute the direct vote of the producers. 4. That the principle of one man one vote be adhered to. 5. That the elections be by postal ballot.” Other remits arc as follow: — Duller Valley Farmers’ Co-operative Dairy Co.. Ltd.—“ That in view of the prices charged for dairy machinery, implements and spare parts for same the National Dairy'Association be requested to secure suitable agencies and retail such machinery, implements and parts to members.” Pihama Co-operative Dairy Co., Ltd. —‘ ‘ That the New Zealand Dairy Produce Board be requested to take steps to prevent dairy companies from holding dairy produce in London for more than a reasonable time after discharge from steamer as this practice nullifies the policy of the-Dairy Board in spreading shipments from New Zealand and thus giving a continuity of supplies on the Home market.” Te Aroha-Thames Valley Co-operative Dairy Co., Ltd. —“That this conference petition Parliament to pass the necessary legislation to constitute farm running expenses, fertiliser, goods and reasonable living expenses a first charge on farmers’ butterfat proceeds. ’ ’ Parkville Co-operative Dairy Co., Ltd. —“That the provisions of the Loan and Mortgage Corporation are inadequate to restore financial solvency to the dairy industry and that this company believes that the time is ripe to urge upon the delegates assembled at the National Dairy Conference the urgency of uniting and working wholeheartedly for a guaranteed price in New Zealand w r hich will cover costs of production.” Rai Valley Co-operative Dairy Co., Ltd. —“That this company favours the adoption of a standard balance-sheet and system of book-keeping for all dairy companies.” Tauranga Co-operative Dairy Association, Ltd. —“That this conference takes steps, with a view to having the regulations governing local supply altered, so as to permit the sale of cream, after pasteurisation, direct from dairy factories.” i
