DRAMATIC APPEAL FOR LIFE OF N.R.A. CROWDS ROAR APPROVAL. (By Telegraph-Press Assn.-Copyright) Received Friday, 7.35 p.m. NEW YORK, May 24. Mr. William Green, president of the American Federation of Labour, appealed to Labour to follow the leadership of President Roosevelt and struck at a‘recent statement by Hoover demanding the speedy death of the N.R.A. " Our Liber alienators,' ’ shouted Mr. Green, * ‘ can either follow this discredited leader defeat the aims of Labour or stand with 1 bur progressive President and the hosts' ofLabour. Labour holds that the N.R.A, must not and can not be either abandoned or terminated until it has returned the millions who are still unemployed, back to work. We ■will refuse to work and mobilise our entire economic strength until-we get our rights." The crowd roared approval. He threatened political retaliation against the members of Congress. [ln a statement made at a mass meeting of 50,000 workers in Madisbn Square Gardens, Mr. Green said that
unless Labour demands for a two-year continuation of the N.R.A. and otherlegislation was met. organised labour would down tools in a general strike. The above statement, apparently, is accounted for by the action of the (Senate, in only voting 10 months' extension of the N.R.A. benefits, instead of the two years asked for by the President,]
