MANAWATU FLOOD.

LEVIN-EOXTON HIGHWAY CLOSED I Although the Levin-Foxton main i highway remained (passable last evening and throughout the greater part of the night, the Manawatu flood early this morning asserted itself, and the water, working Idown from the higher reaches, rapidly rose, making the roadway impassable before 6 a.m. with a depth ,'Of 2ft. 6in. At 10 a.m. this had increased to perhaps 3ft. 6in., and it was possible that the rise would! be continued for another foot. It is anticipated that it will be at least Hiree or four days before the road is again clear for traffic. The flood-water' in the low-lying swamp area was further fed yesterday by an overflow from the river just above the Wirokino Bridge, in addition to the break at (Poplar road, and another in between. This morning, however, the river had dropped by two feet, and the flow ever the stopbank had ceased. The road is now easily passable', the country in the Poplar area, and the Poplar road being quite dry.
