CONDUCT OF ELECTION.

MAGISTERIAL INQUIRY ASKED FOR. (By Telegraph —Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The Wellington Labour Representation (Committee after having obtained legal advice has decided to ask for a magisterial inquiry into the conduct of the election for Mayor and 'City Council on the grounds that the election was not held in conformity with certain provisions of the legislation; In particular, that the returning officer failed to provide at several booths a sufficient number of ballot papers, with the result that a large number of electors were unable to record theii votes. It is also alleged that many votes cast on behalf of companies and other corporate bodies were invalid, though allowed by the returning officer.
