Poppy Day Collections in Wellington
AMOUNT ABOVE LAST YEAR (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Last Night. Poppy Day street collections onThursday proved most successful. The takings by Wellington city and auxiliary committees amounted to £774 Is lid, which is £75 above last year. No results have yet been received from outlying districts—Petone, Hutt and Porirua. Over 100 poppies were ordered for Government House, where, at Lord Galway’s request, everyone in the household wore a poppy. Appeal by Christchurch B.S.A. CHRISTCHURCH, Last Night. Approximately £IOOO had been received late on Thursday night from the Poppy Day street appeal by the Christchurch Returned Soldiers’ Association for the relief of distress among returned men. It is expected that the total will be increased to at least £1250 when all returns come in. La£t. year’s total was £1336.
Collections at Auckland AUCKLAND, Last NightPoppy Day strict appeal in Auckland on Thursday, amounted to £I2BO, as against £1272 last year. When the returns from the smaller districts are received, it is expected that the total will reach £I3OO.
