BOWLING.
SIMCOX CUP. OTAKI DEFEAT LEVIN. An Otaki' rink—Lowry, Nicolson, Noble, Windley (s) journeyed to Levin on Wednesday, following a challenge for ,the Simcox cup, donated by the late Air. W. H. Simcox in 1917. The holders —Levin—were represented by Eqss,'Shervyood, Lemmon, Bull (s). A most interesting game resulted, the heads being frequently changed by shots that did players credit. There were several dead heads, all caused by Levin. Otaki opened by scoring a single, and were unfortunate in not scoring four on the next head, Bull trailing kitty with his last bowl for two. Otaki scored on the next two heads, then Levin added two, leaving Otaki two up. Otaki scored on four successive heads, 10—5, and on the 17th head led 10 —8. Levin scored five in succession, reaching within three of Otaki’s score. The holders wanted three to score a draw on the last head but failed, Otaki adding one, 17—13. The Levin Club hospitably entertained ‘the visitors, who were congratulated on all sides for their win, and Mr. Foss, in handing over the cup to Otaki, added his congratulations. He stated that his club had derived pleasure in holding the cup for some time, and now trusted Otaki would derive as much enjoyment in games to follow. He considered his side had met a better rink, all opponents had played well. Hinemoa would have the opportunity to play Otaki on Wednesday and if the game eventuated he hoped it would be a good one. (Cheers). Mr. Windley, on behalf of the victors, admitted that he was proud to become, the possessor of the cup. His rink had been to Levin previously and had suffered defeat, and he thought by Otaki how winning fresh interest would be created. ' He thanked the club for its hospitality. (Cheers).
