FOOTBALL.

ROWLAND CT7P CONTEST,

BUNNYTHORPE DEFEAT OTAEI

The Rowland Cup, for competition between the champion junior teams in the Manawatu and Horowhenua Unions was competed for on Saturday at Palmerston North, Bunnythorpe, the Manawatu champions, defeating Otaki, 18 —d, after a hard fought match, in which forward play predominated. Conditions were ideal for fast and open football, but the vspoiling tactics of both teams mutilated what efforts there were to open the game up. Otaki commenced brightly, and held Bunnythorpe, Mita and Lithgow crossing early in the game to give Otaki a 6 —o lead. Bunnythorpe improved as the game progressed, and a try by H. Waugh, which Sutherland converted, made the half-time score 6—5 in favour of the visitors. The change of ends saw Bunnythorpe dominate play, tries being added by H. Waugh, Withers and Edhouse; Sutherland converting the first and last, to make the score 18 —6. Mr. <C. Eglington was the referee.
