WELLINGTON TEAM VISITS
LEVIN.
On Saturday evening a Wellington chess team, paid a visit to Levin and indulged in a friendly contest with a combined team from the Shannon and Levin Clubs. Wellington produced a strong set of players, numbering 16 in all and included A. W. Gyles, former N.Z. Champion and this yearns runnerup for the title. In the play the visitors secured 13 wins and 2 drawn games. The match took place in tho Oxford Tea Rooms and before play commenced Mr. W. Dowling (Levin captain) and Mr. E. T. Moody (Shannon) extended' a welcome to the visitors. At the supper adjournment Mr. Ivelling (Wellington) returned thanks on behalf of his team.
.Following are the results of tho games, the combined team being mentioned first in .each instance:
Beverley (L) lost to Gyles. ■Somers (S) lost to Anderson. Dowling (L) halved with H. Godtschalk.
Ostler (S) lost to Craven. Langclan (L) won from Morton King (S.) lost to Kelling. Townsend (L) lost to Hardy.
Bass (S) lost to White. Humphrey (L) halved with Jessup. Moody (S) lost to R. G. Godtschalk. McKay (L) lost to Roberts. Thwaites, Jr. (S) lost to Dr. Myers Roberts (L) lost to Day.
Robinson (S) lost to Yarrill Earle (L) lost to Lucas.
McLean (S) lost to Emery. The following friendly games also took place;— Moulin (L) lost to Mason (S). Malley (&) won from Perry (S). Tippler (S) lost to Emery (W).
