HOME-MADE SOAP.
Here are three good recipes for homo made soap and all are most satisfac tory:—
I.—Take 71bs fat, 61bs washing soda, 3lbs lime, lib resin, 12 quarts water. Boil lime and soda for 1 hour. Next day strain off water and boil all ingredients for 3 hours. Wet a tub to prevent sticking, turn in the soap, let it stand till solid, and then cut into bars and put on a board to dry.
2. —Take 51bs or Gibs tallow (any condition), lib caustic soda, .1 packet Lux, 11b resin, 12 pints of water. Boil all together for 2 hours, or until thick. It will need a very slow iftre and careful watching as it boils over easily.
3. —Boil 12 quarts rainwater, 3-lbs. lime, and 6lbs washing soda for 1 hour. Let the mixture stand all night and then strain off in the morning and add lib resin, 7,lbs fat, and 3 tablespoons borax. Boil 3 hours, stirring constantly. Put in a mould and cut into, bars when cold.
