EVIL INFLUENCE OF SAPPHIRE

MISHAPS AMONG HINDUS. (By Telegraph-Press Assn.-Copyright). (Received This Day, 10.15 a.m.) CALCUTTA, May 20. The chain of mishaps among well-to-do Hindu residents of Naghpur is ascribed to the evil influence of a beautiful sapphire.' The sapphire was given to a Naghpur merchant, w'ho within three days lost business orders worth several thousand rupees and was involved in a ear accident. He gave the stone to a lawyer, who within twelve hours was ik no eked down by a car. The sapphire was then given to another lawyer, whose wife died suddenly. It was left in the custody of a cook, who was severely burned when the kitchen caught fire. Two hours after, it was given away and the recipient was thrown from his motor-cycle while taking it home. The sapphire is now in the possession of a Parsee woman, and it is believed that the evil influence has been broken, now that it is not in the hands of a Hindu.
