Disaffection at Sea

AUSTRALIAN HOLD-UP PREDICTED MELBOURNE, March 21. Officials of the Seamen’s Union are in touch with the crews of the Wanganella, Kooyong and Allawa as the result of reports of disaffection. One official reported that he predicted a general hold-up, but declined to say so for publication with his name. The crew of the Kooyong gave notice, but the captain informed the owners, Mcllraith, McEacharn, and Co., later that the notice had been withdrawn. The shipowner’s chairman, Mr. J. L. Webb, refuses to comment. Steamer Goulbourn Involved Received Wednesday, 10.15 p.m. SYDNEY, March 21. Seamen’s officials at Newcastle predict no likelihood of an extension of the shipping dispute, which has already involved the steamer Goulbourn. The steamer Kooyong reached Newcastle, her cargo being unloaded and the vessel leaving again on time.
