CORRESPONDENCE.

CHRISTMAS CHEER FUND. (To the Editor.) -Sir, —I cannot let the successful conclusion of this effort pass without recording my very sincere thanks to all who have helped in the good cause viz., to — (1) Those citizens who conceived the idea of making the effort on somewhat original lines, and for those who in the first instance carried through the “Grand Parade” which proved such a splendid advertising medium for the functions to follow. (2) Mr Port, for kindly lending his grounds, and to Mr and Mrs Brewster for their organisation of a very successful garden party. (3) The many who assisted at the evening sports gathering, the Christy Minstrels, the. Mock Court officials, and the hard worked refreshment vendors. (4) The Ladies * Ball Committee who organised and carried through a very pleasant and profitable function. (5) The Ladies’ Distribution Committees who carried out duties which entailed much energy and very careful work. (6) The many subscribers to the Fund in money and in kind, the business people of the town lor their kindly assistance and the cordial sympathy of the general public.

(7) The General Committee who worked faithfully and well throughout the whole effort and to, whose untiring work the financial success is due. So that on the whole splendid support has been given to this undertaking to do something for the children at this Christmas season —the Press has helped us in every way and those public halls used for the functions have been supplied without charge. All helpers and subscribers may have the satisfaction of knowing that in very many instances a little Christmas cheer has been brought to those children who in these difficult times might have missed it altogether. From many sources I am learning ‘that the efforts made are very much appreciated.

. With all seasonable good wishes to all who have jn any way assisted in this children’s effort. I am, etc., t , P. W. GOLDSMITH, Mayor.
