OTAKI MAGISTRATE’S COURT.

OTAKI—THURSDAY. (Before Mr. J. Logan Stout, S.M.) No Lights. Police v. William Wilson.—On 20/10/33 did ride a bicycle at night without a light. Henry Wilson was similarly charged. Both pleaded guilty. Constable Satherley stated that it was their first offence, also that they were on relief work. , The S.M. stated that he could not fine them less than 5s (-costs 12s) but he would give them a month in which to pay. Heavy Traffic By-Law. J. E. Ainsworth {T£ain Highways Board Inspector) v. J. D, Cooksley {Mr. Rhodes). —On 4/10/33 at Waikanae did operate a heavy motor vehicle carrying a greater load than the maximum load it was licensed to carry. Defendant, through counsel, pleaded guilty. Inspector Ainsworth stated that the load was exceeded by over 4ewt. It was, however, defendant’s first offence. Mr. Rhodes stated that the person responsible was in the employ of Mr. Cooksley, the excess weight was small, and that the defendant had taken out a license for the next class which had cost him £5. He asked that a lenient view be taken. —Fined £2, costs 15s. J. E. Ainsworth v. S. Wright and Co. —On 6/10/33 at Pahautanui did operate on a road classified as Class 3 a heavy motor vehicle, the weight of which, together with its load, did exceed the weight for which the said road is declared available; (2) On 6/10/33 did operate a heavy motor vehicle carrying a greater load than it was licensed to carry.

Defendant pleaded guilty by letter. It was stated by the Inspector that the excess weight was 4cwt. —Fined £2 on each charge, costs Iss. Excessive Speeding, Otaki Borough Council (Mr. Atmore) v. Malcolm Bills.—On 19/10/33 did drive a motor-car across the inter-sec-tion of Main County Road and Arthur Street at a speed in excess of 15 m.p.h. Inspector Furse stated that Bills had done 30 m.p.h. Bills, who did not appear, stated by letter that his speed was 20 m.p.h. — Fned £2, costs 10s. Civil Business. Commissioner of Taxes v. Arthur Mills, claim £7 19s 3d.—Judgment by default, costs 19s. Commissioner of Taxes v. Peter Eng, claim £8 (is Bd.—Judgment by default, costs 18s. C. McDonald (Mr. Rhodes) v. P. G, Wilson, claim £lO 14s 2d.—Judgment by default, costs £2 15s. Judgment Summonses. Auckland Gas Co. (Mr. Atmore) v. A. Bae, claim £5 13s 4d. —Ordered to pay £2 per month, in default 7 days’ imprisonment. L. Molfatt (Mr. Rhodes) v. J. T. Burt, claim £9 Is lOd. —Ordered to pay amount forthwith, in default ten days’ imprisonment. C. McDonald (Mr. Rhodes) v. George Mather, claim £7 12s 6d. —Ordered to pay £2 per month, in default five days’ imprisonment. J. T. Trembath (Mr. Rhodes) v. B. Mills, claim £l4_9s 9d—Ordered to pay amount forthwith, in default 14 days’ imprisonment. ■■
