Pedigree Cattle Under Auction

AVERAGE MARKET PRICES.

MANAWATU BULL AND HEIFER SALE

At the eleventh annual Manawatu bull and heifer show and sale, whic.i opened in Palmerston North yesterday, there was no sign of the recent rise in butter prices having unloosed the puiso strings of the dairy faraier. Prices on the whole were not up to those obtained last year, but the average for t.ie first 50 animals sold of 19J guineas, was on a par with values obtained recently in the Waikato. The stock offered came from the herds of wellknown successful breeders and wa> shown in excellent condition. " Buying was confined mostly to Manawatu purchasers, although many were present from further afield.

Prior to the sale a show was held, tne judges being Messrs J. A. Mitchell (Longburn) and H. J. Lancaster (Glen Oroua). Their task was an inenviable one, especially with regard to the yearling bulls, which had to be divided into three sections. Results were:—

Grand champion: Mrs E. Aldis' (Feilding) bull, "Waverley Watchman."

Reserve champion: Mr R. L. Horn's (Kuku) bull, Springburn Renown." Bull, 3 years and over: R. L. Horn 1, L. A. McDonald (Levin) 2, T. Andrews (Bulls) 3. Bull, 2 years: Mrs E. Aldis 1, G. The inspection committee comprised Messrs H. L. Lancaster and J.
