FATE OF LOTTERY REMIT.

CONFERENCE THAT REMAINED UNCONVINCED.

The champion of State lotteries, Mr J. T. Kent, of Waikanac, showed' at the meeting of the Manawatu executive of the Farmers' Union, on Saturday, that he felt ratherly bitterly the Dominion Conference's rejection of the remit advocating this method of modifying the taxation system.

The matter was introduced in the review by the Chairman (Mr J. A. McLeavey), of t-he -Conference proceedings, when he stated that the State lottery proposal ;had been beaten bad-, lv on the voices.

"The majority of the branches pass n remit," said Mr Kent, "and we send it to th-e New Zealand Conference for approval, and somebody gets up and talks a'bout the stability of the nation."
