“Menace to the Community”
WOMAN SENT TO GAOL ON FALSE PRETENCES CHARGE. WELLINGTON, Last Night. Described by Detective-Sergeant Revell as a woman who was becoming, a menace to the community and who was quite unscrupulous, Nellie Limpus. who appeared before Mr E. Pag'*, S.M., in the Police Court to-day, vas sent to gaol for three months on twocharges of obtaining money by false pretences, the terms to be concurrent. ' Accused is alleged to have falsely represented that she had 11 boarders - - and also had a boardinghouse' on Terrace which was doing well. Accused denied the accusatiions. Detcctive-Scrgt. Revell said defendant had a boardinghouse in McDonald crescent. She advertised in the Pressthat she wanted a partner who was prepared to invest £4O. A young man named Vibond decided to enter intopartnership with defendant, and paid £4O, defendant giving him a receipt. Later Vibond discovered that defendant had only four hoarders and was also unable to find The Terrace boardinghouse. In addition, his receipt for £4O mysteriously disappeared from hisbedroom. However, he had a duplicate of the receipt, and when he could not got his money back ho reported the matter to the police. The evidence, Deteetive-Sergt. Revell added, would show that another man named Lindblad invested £2o' with defendant on practically the same representations. Evidence would alsobe given by a young, woman who invested £3O with defendant about Christmas time on the,.same representation.
