NEW DIESEL-ELECTRIC VEHICLE DEVELOPED AT HOME British Official Wireless. RUGBY, August 3. A new streamlined Diesel-electric rail-bus. built by Messrs Armstrong, Whitworth and On., to make possible rail travel at a high speed and low r.ost over short distances, was on show in, London to-day. Carrying its own power, the vehicle has the advantage of quick starting and stopping, without requiring the line to bo electrified. The bus is 524 foot long and has (30 seats. It weighs 174 tons and can travel 70 miles an hour. On a recent test it covered 267 mils* at a cost of 4s lid per mile.
