Completing the Napier to Gisborne Railway Line
PROPOSALS OF COMMITTEE
WELLINGTON, Aug. 4
Coder legislation passed last session it is possible for a private company to take oxer the assets and complete the Napier-Gisborne railway line and conduct it as a private undertaking. A proposal to this effect lias recently been tiie subject yf a discussion. A committee of Railway Department oriiccrs with the chairman of the Railway Board, -Mr. 11. 11. sterling, has been coasidoiing the conditions under which the line mi gilt be transferred, and its deliberations have now been completed, and the members of Parlia-
ment for the districts concerned — Hawke's Bay, Napier, Gisborne and Hay of Plenty—have been informed of the conclusions arrived at.
Asked tu-d.ay if lie was in a position to make public the proposals of the committee. Kt. Hon. .1. G. Coates said iie could not do so at the moment. The proposals had: been forwarded to the members concerned and it would be for them to make them public, if so do-
sired. The two members who had been most intimately concerned with the negotiations are Messrs H. M. Campbell and K. Williams and Mr. W. D. Lysnar, tne former member for Gisborne, has alos (men taking an active interest in the matter.
