Establishing a Search Fund for Missing Trampers
ART UNION ALLOCATION SOUGHT
WELLINGTON. Last Night. The big expenditure involved h; conducting searches for lost trampcis or persons who meet with accident in alpine country was stressed by a Federated Mountain Clubs’ deputation, asking the Minister of Internal Affairs for permission to participate in an art union for the establishment of a search fund. At the conclusion of the conference the Minister said he could make no promises, but he thought a case for consideration had been made out. In the latter stages the Minister brought up the question of control of trampers, and suggested that trampers disregarding warning notices might be made liable for damages or part of the search fund. The whole question ol searching would have to be controlled Mr L. Hooker (Hawera) said con tributions would bo mkde only to prd perly organised and properly equippec search parties.
