LEVIN WORKERS’ ASSOCIATION
NOT AFFILIATING WITH NATIONAL UNION. DELEGATES APPOINTED TO UNEMPLOYMENT CONFERENCE. A general meeting of the Levin AA rorkers’ Association was held in the Band Room last evening. The President (Mr J. Durrant) was in the chair, and there was an exceptionally good attendance. The allocations by the subcommittee of the Unemployment Committee were discussed, and it was decided to bring the matter of the new alloea.tions under the notice of the Committer It was also resolved to forward to the committee a suggestion that a member of that body visit Wellington to interview the authorities and ask for an increased allocation for Levin.
A vote of thanks was passed to the manager of the Regent Theatre for the issue of complimentary tickets to the members of the Association. The constitution of the National Union of Unemployed was before the meeting, but it decided to take no action in the direction of affiliating with it. The general opinion of the meeting was that such a movement tended to make relief work a perman-ent-feature of the national life. Messrs Durrant and H. Cameron (secretary) were appointed delegates to the conference of the Unemployment Committee and other interested bodies, to bo held next Wednesday evening. The meeting concluded with votes of thanks to the chairman and the secretary for their work on behalf of the Association.
