INGENIOUS ATTEMPTS TU OBTAIN MONEY
NEW PLYMOUUTH, Last Night,
Ingenious attempts to obtain money by false pretences were made by David Scrogie at Stratford. He approached, a number of tearooms proprietors at Stratford and Taumaranui and represented that he was arranging Cook’s tours and seeking suitable tearooms to which to take parties. From one proprietor at Stratford he obtained 375-6 d, 6d, but others refused him. He alsoobtained I7s 6d from one Taumarunui proprietor. He was sentenced to a. month’s imprisonment each on several charges, the sentences to be cumulative. He is at present serving a term for similar charges at Palmerston. North.
