AUCKLAND RELIEF WORKERS REFUSE TO GO ON STRIKE
Majority of Two to One Against NAPIER DELEGATES GET POOR HEARING AUCKLAND, Last Night. The proposal that the Auckland relief workers shpuld strike Th sympathy with those who ceased work in Hawke's Bay recently was rejected by a ballot by a majority of over two to one. xt was stated that of 8000 relief workers in the Auckland area entitled to vote only 3800 took part in the ballot. The actual voting figures not divulged. An effort was made to hold a demonstration of unemployed at Victoria park, but only about 100 men attended and after a wait of about half an hour the men were told it w'as not proposed to proceed with the meeting but they would meet later at the Trades Hall. The meeting at the hall was attended by approximately 150‘men and several women and was addressed by Mr. H. Kay, chairman of the Napier and District Belief Workers’ Association, and Mr. J. Clancy, also of Hawke’s Bay. At the conclusion the leaders declined to make a statement indicating tne nature of the business considered.
