BEBBINGTON SHIELD.

COMES BACK TO HOROWHENUA. The Horowhenua Rugby representative team which visited Dannevirke yesterday to play a challenge match for the Bebbington Shield, was successful in their quest, defeating Danevirke by 13 points to 6. , Tries were scored by Payne, Broughton and W. Parata, while Johnson and Graham each converted one. Merrylees and Grant scored tries for the losers. Horowhenua had the best of the game throughout both spells. This is the filth time Dannevirke have defended the shield, and the first defeat since last season.RECOVERED AFTER LONG ABSENCE. The Shield has returned to Horowhenua after being absent for four vears. In 1929 Busli, won it from this district by six points to three. The following year, Horowhenua tried to wrest it from Dannevirke, but were beaten by 14 to 10. In 1931 conclusions were tried again with Bush, who emerged successfully by nine to three. Dannevirke were encountered last year, and they proved formidable, retaining the trophy by 28 points to eight. Horowhenua’s victory this year should give a much-needed fillip to the interest in senior club football, public support of which has net been strong in the last two seasons.
