Howe, the President's secretary, predicted that the Economic Conference would adjourn shortly to permit a study of .many of the problems evolved by the special committees. Tumbling Dollars' Effect on British Shares BIG INCREASE IN BUSINESS ON 'CHANGE LONDON, July 8. Business on the London Stock Exchange has been greatly increased in the last few days as a result of the value of the dollar. Yesterday's dealings in industrials was the largest, for a long period. Big buying orders for British equities came from the United States and the Continent. Even shipping shares, which .have long been neglected, came into prominence. Other shares in demand were iron and steel, Home railways, tea and rubber. With all this demand for industrials it is only natural that gilt-edged securities should be neglected, with slight reductions in prices. . Australians, however, are generally steady.
