TALK OF NATIONAL STRIKE.

BY UNEMPLOYED IN HAWKE'S BAY.

UNLESS CERTAIN CONCESSIONS GRANTED

HASTINGS, Last Night

The strike position at Napier and Hastings remains unaltered, the most important development to-day being a meeting of the Hawke's Bay Provincial Council of the National Union of Unemployed which afterwards issued the following statement: — "Every effort is now being made by the provincial council to effect a reasonable settlement and it is still hoped that a national strike will be averted. A telegram has been received from Wellington stating that national action has been decided upon and we ii*vb also received communications from many relief workers' ■ organisations throughout the Dominion assuring us of their support.

"The position has been greatly improved and already certain concessions have been offered by the conference ol local bodies. The Hawke's Bay County Council has made certain oners which still contain features to which the provincial council cannot agree.

"A further conference of local body representatives has been arranged by the Mayor of Napier and flurough that conference we iave submitted our reply to the County Council."
