WOMEN'S INSTITUTE.

TE HORO. The June meeting •of the Te Horo Women's Institute took place recently, and although the weather was cold and wet there was a good.attendance. Mrs.. Blake presided. A dopation of five shillings was given, to the Institute, the donor wishing to remain anonymous; A vote of thanks, was passed. . ■ ; It was with regret that the resignation from the entertainment committee was received from Mrs. Spiers. Later on in the afternoon, a very interesting, and much appreciated, demonstration on brass-work was given by Mrs. McLean. There was only one competition, and. that was for the cheapest cake. Therewere many entries, and the judges had. a difficult task, in the end they chose Mrs, Terry's/exhibit as the best economical cake, with Mrs. Jensen’s cake second. A dainty afternoon tea, served by; the hostesses, Mesdam.es Lawrence, A. Taylor and iC. /Cobb, Miss O. Law rence,’brought the afternoon to an end.. The first of a series of games evenings to be held each fortnight, took, place last Monday and was a great success. MANAKATT. The monthly meeting of the Manakau Women’s Institute was held on_ ' the 15th and was presided over by Mrs.. L. Atkins. The afternoon being verycold there was only a fair attendance of members. The roll call for the afternoon was* “-What my husband thinks of the Women’s Institute,” and caused/much amusement. Gift parcels were received to be sent: in to the Feilden Taylor Mission. A. good collection was handed in. Mr. Sherriff, Singer sewing machine expert, of Levin, gave a very interesting demonstration on the use of the labour saving attachment supplied with ,the Singer machine; hemming, filling,, darning. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames Herrick, KnightMisses Drake, Evans and Houghton.
