Passing of Australian Captain of Industry
Received Tuesday, 9.50 n.m. SYDNEY, June 27. Representatives of all sections of business, public and private life attended the funeral to-day of Mr E. W. Knox, late chairman of directors of the Colonial Sugar Refining Com■pany, including members of the staff of the company. A devotional service was held at All Saints' Church, Woolahra. Thousands of people gathered in the vicinity. ‘ The Governor w r as represented by Lieutenant-Commander Clifford, A.D.C. Hundreds of wreaths were piled on three floats. The Rev. Canon Langley, paying tribute to the deceased, said Australia will be the poorer for his passing. She. has lost one of her eminent sons, a devoted leader of commerce, who played a large part in building the big industry which gave their livelihoods to a great number of people. No industry Stood higher in public estimation and stability than the one to which the best part of a long life was devoted. The burial took place at Waverley cemetery.
