OBITUARY.

. MRS E. E, KIRKLAND. One of Foxton’s most highly esteemed citizens in the person of Mrs Esther Emma Kirkland, aged 51 years, wife of Mr Walter Kirkland, passed away at her home, Whyte’s Hotel, on Sunday afternoon. Although deceased had been suffering for some time, her deunise came as a shock to those with whom she was associated. The deceased lady possessed a very happy and genial disposition and was held in very high esteem' by all who knew her. She took a keen interest in the welfare of Foxton and district and was particularly interested in sport. Both Mr and Mrs Kirkland were born in Bcga, New South Wales, of highly respected pioneer families and were boy and girl together, the demise of Mrs Kirkland bringing to an end a life-long attachment. Mr and Mrs Kirkland came to New Zealand 25 years ago and for a number of years have been residing in Foxton. Besides her husband, deceased Leaves one daughter, Mrs G. Rough, junr., to mourn her passing, a son having died a number of years ago. The funeral was very largely attended. A wealth of 'beautiful wreaths accompanied the casket to the graveside where the last rites were performed by Rev. G, A. Young. The pall-bearers were Messrs P. Barry (Palmerston North), J. Roach (Shannon), J. Murray (late Shannon), W. Bowmen, H. Robinson ahd J. L. Christie (Foxton).
