After a leisurely flight from Brisbane in crisp sunshine the British Imperial Airways plane Astraea reached Sydney this afternoon. A crowd of thousands of persons was impressed with the graceful landing of the largest machine which has ever visited Australia. Major Brackley and his party were enthusiastically welcomed and Major Brackley was compelled to make a speech in which he expressed admiration for the beauty of the coastal scenery and the wonderful scope which this country affords for flying. He added it was apparent that the people were thoroughly air-minded when they would turn out in such large numbers to witness the Astraea’s -rrival. He felt quite sure that everybody was aware of his mission and hoped soon to see a regular air service between England and Australia.

The escort of a dozen local aeroplanes which accompanied the- giant Astraea over the city were completely dwarfed in size.
