TOBACCONIST’S SHOP RAIDED.
THIEVES DISTURBED BY WATCHMAN-. ABOUT £7O WORTH OF TOBACCO STOLEN. (By Telegraph—-Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Wednesday. Further particulars in regard to the burglary at iSowman’s tobacconist’s shop show that three men broke in and that a quantity of cigarettes, tobacco and other goods of a value of about £7O were taken. The men gained entrance through a back door leading to a right-of-way and but for the timely arrival of the nightwatehman, MrM. Jurriss, the thieves would have made a bigger haul. In the hurry of their escape they left two bags containing goods at the back of the shop. Two of the men, one of whom had an iron bar, attempted to assault Jurriss, but he warded them off and they escaped to Bpulcott Street, where apparently a car was parked. The other man rushed to the front of the shop and escaped that way. Some of the money stolen "was being held in trust.
