SOCIAL AT IHAKARA.
CONCERT, PRIZE-GIVING & CHRISTMAS TREE. A T)ig entertainment was given, in the Ihakara Hall on Monday evening, under the auspices of the Salvation Army, when a concert was held and, in' conjunction therewith, the distribution of prizes to pupils of the Koputaroa and Ihakara Sunday Schools, as .well as a Christmas Tree celebration. About 250 people were present, including visitors from Shannon, Koputaroa and Levin, and Mr S. A. Broadbelt acted as chairman.
The programme was as follows: Congregational song, "While Shepherds Watched"; recitation, "Jackie's Fishing," Eae McLeod; song, "Friend o' Mine," Mr W. Duguid (encore, "Red Devon by the Sea"); dialogue, "What a Boy Sows," George and John Sinclair (Shannon); company song, "Jesus Loves Me," primary children; dialogue, "Why She was Mamma's Favourite," Levin pupils; company song, "Jesus Wants Me for a Sunbeam"; mandolin solo, Ron. Cottle; recitation, Miss Martha Laing; recitation, "Scarecrow," Jean Mitchell; song, "IThe Sailor's Paradise," Mr A. J, W. Hodder (encores, "The Recruit" and/"A Chip of the Old Block"); recitation, "Johnny's Fishing," Keith McLeod; tableau in three scenes, "Christ' is All," Levin pupils; company song, "Friend of Little Children"; recitation, "A Razor Seller," Betty Cotter; recitation, "Fishing," Joyce Hustler; company song, "Wtyat a Friend," senior girls; duet, "The Moon Hath Raised Her Lamp Above," Messrs Hodder and Duguid (encore, "Passing By"). Accompaniments for the adult vocalists were played by Mrs Hodder. During an interval a collection was taken up in aid of the juvenile work. After the prizes had been presented, Father .Christmas niade his entry and there followed the distribution of gifts from the Ibeautifully decorated tree. Some three hundred presents were given .out, everybody (benefitting, from babies in awns to the oldest adult. A very happy function was rounded off with an excellent supper. The thanks of the organisers are due to business people in Levin for helping the Christmas gifts funds.
