UNION OPPOSES EXEMPTION OF FARM LORRIES FROM FREIGHT FEES. (By Telegraph—Press Association.,) - PALMERSTON N., Wednesday. The Nortb Island Motor Union.V annual conference was continued this morning. The following officers were elected': —President, Mr W. O’Callaghan (Hawera); vice-presidents, Dr. Porritt (Wanganui) and Mr J. Bdmundson (Hawkes Bay); executive, Messrs D. McFarlane (Wanganui), R. Roydhouse (Wairarapa), J. Edmundson, V. Duff (New Plymouth), A. Grayson (Auckland), W. "G. Walkley (Hawera), N. H. Mackie CPalmerston North), and Ashcroft-Edwards (Wellington). Notice was given by. Dr. Porritt to move that the position of patron of the Union be created and that the Gov-ernor-General be asked. to accept that office. Following a discussion on the claim made by farmers that lorries solely connected with farm operations be exempted from the heavy traffic fees, a resolution was carried asking the Transport Department to see that exemption is not granted to any section of the comm,unity.
