( 'OTAKI, Monday. Miss Kenworthy i s a t present in Dunedin on account of the serious illness of her mother.

Mi’. W. Bassett, who was a resident of Otaki for some years, was among the visitors to Otaki yesterday.

We are pleased to report that Mr. J. P. Brandon continues to make good progress after his serious illness but it will be a month or so before he completely recovers.

A man named Harry Bob in son was last night apprehended by Constable iSathorley and this morning appeared before Mr. H. Nicolson, JJ?. He was remanded for a week for medical treatment. "

The euchre party held for the Raukawa social fund took place at the Raukawa dining-room on Friday night and was well attended. The management was in capable hands and everything passed off pleasantly. First prizes were won by Mr. Wilson Rei and Mrs. Pohio, and second awards were annexed by Mr. Peter King and Mrs. Baker. The consolation prize was won by Mrs. Wilson. Supper was served and enjoyed.

The death occurred suddenly at 4 o’clock on Saturday morning of Mr. Frederick John Melrose, a well-known and highly respected resident of Otaki. The deceased, who was born .in Scotland, was 64 years of age, and came to New Zealand when a youth of 18 years of age. For some time he resided in Dunedin, but for the past 24 years had been a resident of Otaki, where he had many friends. For many years the late Mr. Melrose had been farm manager at the Otaki Sanatorium and ably carried out his duties. He was a general favourite and much regret is expressed at his death. _ The late Mr. Melrose had always enjoyed good health and his sudden death has come as a shock to his many friends. Much sympathy is felt for the bereaved wife and family of three, Mr. Raymond Melrose, and Misses Dorothy and Gwen Melrose.
