Tlie death is reported from Auckland of Mrs 'Mary Flora McDonald Fitzherbert, widow of the late Mr If. S. Fitzherbert, S.M., formerly of Palmerstoin; North. The deceased lady was .in her 78th year. She was 'born in. Adelaide in 1854 and came to New Zealand with her parents, the late Mr and Mrs Matthew Muir. She was the first 'dux of the Otago Girls' High Scho.iT, and in 1876 was married at Dunedm to Mr Fi'tzherbert, who in 1884 became member of Parliament for the Hutt. On retiring in 1887 they went to in Palmerston, where Mr Fitzherbert practiced as a, solicitor. Mrs Fitzher,'bert took part in many activities and was a very accomplished pianist. A family of seven survive, these being Messrs W. L. Fitzherbert, solicitor, Palmerston North; S. W. Fitzherbert and P. B. Fitzherbert, solicitors, Wellington; Victor Fitzhenbert, Sydney; Mrs Fenton, wife of Mr E. P. Fenton, of the Fijian civil .service; Mrs Chilwell, wife of 'Mr B. C. Chihvell, architect, of Auckland; and Miss Sybil Fitzherbert, assistant' matron of the Girls' High School, Suva, (Fiji).
