TOM LOWRY’S ENGAGEMENT. LONDON, April 26. Most of the London and provincial papers refer with interest to the announcement of the engagement of Mr T. C. Lowry, the New Zealand cricket captain, to Alias Margaret Russell. One of the commentators says that Mr Lowry has ico-untless friends in the Mother (Country, and goes on to remark: “Apart from all the friends he had made on the cricket fields, no- one who met him privately could fail to be impressed and attracted by him. At Cambridge he and his two brothers, Jim and Ralph, all at- Jesus College, were the most familiar figures in the town. All were unusually strong, and all got Blues. Ralph was in the Rugby team, Jim captained the lawn tennis side, and Tom the cricket.
“Actually they were experts at most games, for Tom was a; fine forward at Rugby, a- good lawn tennis player with a tremendous service, and a centre-half for his college at hockey. Cold weather seemed to mean nothing to him, for, without hat, overcoat, or gloves he would frequently drive his battered old open .motor-car when snow was lying on the ground. He had a. great knack for spotting winners, and his was a well-known figure on the racecourse.”
