THE GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP.
Britain Still in Firing Line Eeceived Thursday, 9.50 p.m. LONDON, June 9. Though Sarazen struck America's first blow in the golf championship proper, Britain is still in the firing line. The scoring was so close that the holder, Armour, will have much to do to make up his ''first-round 75. 1 Alliss, the British professional in Berlin, early in his round looked certain to be the leader. He began dazzlingly with 44 3 24, and was four under fours with the last four to play, but finished indifferently with 5 4 5 5.
Abe Mitchell was a great disappointment. Nobody played his drives and shots through the green better, but he putted feebly. Armour was fidgety and ill at ease. He lost confidence in his driver and used the brassies on several tees.
