MANAWATU LICENSING COMMITTEE.
ANNUAL MEETING-. The annual meeting of the Manawatu Licensing Committee was held in the Courthouse at Foxton yesterday, presided over by Mr J. L. Stout, S.M. (Chairman). Also present were Messrs E. Bryant, J. Curran, J. H. Perrett, J. E. Walker. RENEWALS. The following renewals Were granted: J. L. Anderson, Family Hotel; WKirkland, Whyte’s Hotel; F. C. Tracey, Manawatu Hotel, Foxton; W. Bundle, Levin Hotel; H. Dooly, -Grand Hotel, Levin; J. tCurran, Albion Hotel; T. P. Moynihan, Manawatu Club Hotel, Shannon; Mrs E. M. Mcßrearty, Endymion Hotel, Awahuri; C. C. Price, Criterion Hotel, Bulls. W. Bull (Levin) was granted a renewal of his wholesale wine and spirit merchant’s license. AFTER-HOUR TRADING. In the case of J. iS. IShorthouse, Post Office Hotel, Constable Owen said the hotel had not been- conducted on satisfactory lines during the past twelve months. The licensee had had two convictions against him for after-hour trading and had been warned repeatedly. The. practice was unfair to the other licensees who conducted their premises on satisfactory lines. Whenmaking out his report he had shown it to Mr iShorthouse and since then there had been an improvement. The licensee, in explanation, said that he had been compelled to .indulge in af ter-honr trading owing to the depression. He had now ceased the practice, however, as things were looking up. He had always conducted au orderly house and never permitted drunkenness or gambling. Constable Owen said after-hour trading was the l only complaint. The S.M. referred to the two previous convictions and said the bench had decided to place the licensee on probation for three months by holding up his license until the quarterly meeting. TRANSFERS. Transfers were granted as follows:Junction Hotel, Sanson, from J. E. Pol : lock to E. Dwyer; Rangitikei Hotel,' Bulls, from J. F. Flynn to M, Bevan. NEW LICENSES. New licenses were granted as follows: —Junction Hotel, Sanson, E. Dwyer; Rangitikei Hotel, Bulls, M. Bevan.
