Smouldering Ruin In Three Minutes
FOUR PASSENGERS SA\ ED FROM PLANE • Received Friday, 2 a.m. SYDNEY, June 9. An aeroplane piloted by F. Ashley, with four passengers, made ■ a forced landing in a fog near Narromine and burst into flames. Ashley, although slightly injured, with great presence of mind dragged all the passengers to safety unharmed. Trree minutes later the machine was a smouldering ruin. On the Way to England Received Thursday, 10.40 p.m. BATAVIA, June 9. The young Sydney aviator Weir has arrived here en route to England. Three Air Force Fatalities Received Thursday, 9.30 p.m. LONDON, June 9. Three Air Force fatalities to-dayj increased the year’s death roll to 25. Lieutenants D. Margetts and J. Newsham, flying aircraft attached to H.M.S. Furious were killed in an accident on the north-west coast of Scotland, while Squadron-Leader L. Elworthy was killed when his parachute failed to open after jumping from a' big bomber containing four officers* The engine stopped, but the pilot made a perfect landing.
