Mrs iC. Gray, an ex resident of Shannon, was a visitor to the town on \\ ednesday.

The many friends of Mr Jas Aim, manager of the Shannon Dauw Co.’s factory, will he sorry to learnt that he Is at present indisposed and is confined to his ibed.

Mr and Mrs J. McClure, who have resided in Tokomaru for some years, .leave Wellington to-day by the Zealandia en route to Queensland, where they intend to reside in future.

Mr F. H. Taylor, formerly headmaster of the Makerua School, now Presbyterian Missioner, of Greytown, has received his license to officiate in births, deaths and marriages. He is also now entitled to - use the word “Rev.” <before his name.

The Tuesday afternoon euchre party held under the auspices of the Croquet Club was not as well attended as usual, no doubt owing to the wintry weather. Aftefnoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames Braun and W. Moynihan. Mrs Pettit was the prize-winner with 11 wins in the 12 games played.

There was again a very good attendance at the progressive games evening •held in the Parish Hall on Monday -evening and organised iby the social -committee of the Anglican Church. Two rounds of games were played, and at the conclusion the winners were found to be Mr A. Satherley and Miss Nola Butters. A delicious supper Avas handed round,'and then dancing occupied the time until 12.30 a.m. Mr P. •Coie was in charge of the games and acted as M.C. for the dance. Mrs Allieon supplied the music, Miss Zita Carter playing an extra. Next Monday ping pong will be played, followed by .supper and a danceo.

f The. monthly meeting of the Shannon branch of the Plunket Society was held on Tuesday afternoon. Present: Mrs C. Easton (president) and Mesdames S. Barber, A. E. Hyde, L. Mark, H. V. Hudson, E. Lind, J. Aim, W. McKenzie, X). Edgintoni and A. Mason (secretary. Apologies for non-atten-dance were received from Mesdames P. W. Bass, Semple, C. M. Cronquest, C. Pilkington, I. E. E-obinson, L. H. Best and C. Guerin. Nurse Norris’ report for the month of May was as follows: Visits to Shannon 4; to homes 19; .adults to rooms 42; babies to rooms, 36; older children 4. Total 82. The secretary reported that the dance held on May 26th proved a financial success. Votes of thanks and appreeiavloa were accorded to all who had helped to make the dance such a success, especially Mr T. Sunley for attending to the coloured lights. It was resolved to announce the winners of the competitions for the iced cake and child’s frock at the Eenown Theatre, at an •early date,
