Ashley, which crashed and was burnt near Narromine, had been enveloped in fog for several hours. Eventually the pilot, tried to make, a forced landing, as the petrol was nearly exhausted. He crashed in a wheat field. Ashley was stunned and was bleeding from wounds in the head and arms, but he dragged himself from his seat and succeeded in rescuing the four passengers, including two ladies, before the flames reached the part of the cabin in which they were trapped.
