LANG FAVOURITE ’ S RECORD UNDER REVIEW Received Wednesday, Midnight. SYDNEY, Juno 8. The Royal Commission has opened its inquiry into the conduct of Charles Goode, Chief Transport Commissioner, ■while he was goods superintendent of the Railways Department prior to 1030. The main features of the inquiry ‘as outlined by the Crown are whether Goode granted preference to a certain carrying firm for the carriage of railways goods and parcels; if so what was the consideration; and whether he received any pecuniary ! benefit from a certain motor firm in connection with the purchase of , lorries. Goode will also be asked to explain . the receipt of a cheque for £IOO from a carrying contractor whose contract was extended from one to three years. The hearing was adjourned to June 20th. Goode was dismissed from the railway service, but when Mr. Lang came into office he was appointed chairman of the Transport Co-ordination Board last year at £1750 a year; then Transport Commissioner at £3500 a year.
