Full of Hope
Received Tuesday, 9 p.m. LONDON, June 7.
Mr. J. H. Thomas, before leaving Euston, said: “1 am going to Ireland full of hope. 1 am clearly conscious of my responsibilities.” Ex-President Cosgrove, in an interview, said: “It appears that Mr. de Valera has adopted the policy of the Opposition. We all along? recommended negotiation.” The Daily Telegraph says the British Government is anxious that the Free State should remain within the British Commonwealth and is prepared to embark on negotiations in a friendly spirit. The Mountain Goes to Mahomet Received Wednesday, 2 a.m. DUBLIN, June 7. Mr. J. H. Thomas and Lord Hailsham have arrived and the conference begins in the forenoon. General satisfaction is expressed at the visit as it is many years since a British Cabinet Minister officially came to Dublin. “The mountain has come to Mahomet and Mahomet later is going to the Mountain” aptly expresses the Free State viewpoint.
