MEMBEB'S PEOPOSAIi
The Silver and Copper Coinage Bill, introduced by Mr. C. A. Wilkinson (Independent, Egmont) in the House of Representatives yesterday afternoon, provides for the issue by New Zealand of its own silver and copper money. It is contended by the author of the measure that there is a net profit of at least £1,000,000 to the Dominion if the matter: is tiken in hand by the Government. Last year the Government received £13,800 as its share of the profits on silver and copper coin issued by the Royal Mint, and as a result of representations arising out of the Interparty Committee advice was received that the amount this yeaT would be £20,000.
It is claimed by Mr. Wilkinson that the influx of Australian silver is operating to the detriment of English silver and will in the end reduce or extinguish Ifcw- Zealand's lihfcre of the profit received from England.
