MACHINE-GUNS FORCE CHINESE RETIREMENT. (Received This Day, 10.25 a.m.) SHANGHAI, Feb. 25.
Miao-hangehen village, behind Hong ;Kew, was subjected to a relentless bombardment throughout the day. Once during the afternoon the Chinese coun-ter-attacked, with disastrous results, the Japanese holding their tire until the attackers were almost on top of them, when the murderous .fire of machine guns mowed down the advancing lines, I forcing their retirement.

Despite the heavy firing, Shanghai's In-annual visitation of crows is in progress. Thousands of birds are hovering over the battlefields, and swooping to the ground during a lull in the ;-fighting,..to fatten on hundreds of dead -soldiers.
