JUNIOR REP. MATCH.

WELLINGTON BOYS v. LEVIN DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL.

Although intermittent misty rain fell yesterday, the match between representatives of the Wellington Boys’ District High School was played without undue inconvenience, the principal drawlbalek being that in the afternoon the ball became slipper. The city lads arrived in two cars and were under the charge of Mr Osborne, ,a member of the Association. Play commenced, on the Weraroa Recreation Ground, at a-quarter to ten, and with .adjournments for imorning and afternoon tea and lunch, proceeded till a few minutes .to six. Levin batted first and were some time getting into their stride, only six being receded for the first five wickets. K. Lemmon came in for the ninth and put up. the very crditable score of 21 not out, which included two fours. The innings closed for 45. Wellington’s score was just double these figures. Hurcombe contributed 37, including eight fours, Smith 17 (two fours), and Boyes 15 (one four). Levin showed much improvement in their next innings, which produced 142. The top scorer Avas K. Lemmon, whose consistent stand yielded 55 before he went out leg-before. He was responsible for eight fours. The other double-figure batsmen were P. Crisp 19 and H. Fletcher 17. Warning 98 runs for a victory, Wellington exceeded this number after 5 wickets had fallen, winning the match by five wickets and 14 runs. In their second innings, Boyes' made 37 not out, and Hurccimbe 20. The former had proved himself also a very effective bowler, taking five wickets for eight and three for 15. Bowling for school, Hammond captured three for 13 and two for 29; Fletcher three for 17 and two for 22. Messrs G. Prance and E. Watts kindly acted as umpires; and the thanks of the players are due to the Levin and Weraroa clubs for the loan of the wicket and matting, also to the Horowhenua Cricket Association for its assistance,. The visitors were entertained at lunch and at morning and afternoon tea, at the Oxford Tea-rooms, by the school team. Matches with country teams, several in a season, have replaced the annual visit which the Wellington boys used to make to Christchurch to play Canterbury boys, and no doubt the former team will benefit from the more varied experience. The game at Levin wasthoroughly enjoyed by both sides. Following are the scores: —
