1 BOMBING ATTACK SHAKES COUNTRYSIDE.

SHANGHAI, Feb. 24,
Japanese airmen bombed the stronghold at Kiangwan in a furious attack that -shook the countryside to-day, but again failed to blast out the ; ‘Chinese, who still sweep the -enemy with an incessant rifle --and machine-gun fire.
Two Chinese airplanes in turn .bombed Japanese headquarters .near Kiangwan, missing their "target by only one hundred feet. 'The air attack was followed up /by frenzied fighting.
The Japanese had launched a •desperate attempt to take Kiangwan in the darkness before dawn. Their batteries on "the Kiangwan golf course -opened fire on, the Chinese positions, but the artillery attack /brought them nothing.
