Drink imperially
VIRTUES OF EMPIRE WINES,
LONDON, Feb. 1(5,
:-,[r. Philip Page, in the article in the Stamiaid on the pica “Drink Imperially,’’ says that Empire wines have ceased to be the sport of humorists. Ho urges their purveyors to dispense with proclaiming their medicinal properties. Anyone proclaiming their superiority as such to the champagne, claret, and burgundy of France, the pert of Portugal, the sherry of Spain, and the hock of Germany is an egregi-
eus ass, damaging tlio cause lie is espousing. 'The best wines of those countries are supreme, but much is pour. On the contrary, the Empire’s preserve a steady level, but do not receive tair play by the public nor the English wine trade associations, which do not recognise them. There is more snobbery in wine-drinking than in any form of gratifying the senses. Millions smack their hps over expensive inferior European tipple and sneeringly dismiss something four times as good because it is labelled Empire.
